Members, students, friends and family were assembled at Restaurant International on Saturday May 7th for the 83rd Annual Wings Presentation Dinner to honour the hard work of students and instructors who have earned their wings and various ratings.
We were honoured to have CBC's own Bob McDonald as our keynote speaker. Bob has been the host of CBC Radio's "Quirks and Quarks" for 20 years now and a Gemini Award winner for the program "Wonderstruck".
On November 13 2010, Bob was initiated as an honourary life member of Sigma Xi, the most prestigious scientific research society in the United States, which was founded in 1886, and membership is by invitation only. Previous honorary inductees have included some of the best known science writers in America, as well as Al Gore. Bob was the first Canadian to receive this honour.
Well now Bob has been honoured with a Lifetime Member of the Ottawa Flying Club.
