Cessna Skycatcher Visit & Seminar 31 Oct 2010

Anna Pangrazzi from Leggat Aviation will be bringing the new Cessna C-162 Skycatcher to OFC on Sunday, 31 October - weather permitting. She will be giving a talk and a tour of the aircraft. We've read a lot about it and would consider the aircraft for training if certification were not such an issue. Come to the seminar to learn more! The event if free. You can sign up on the event page.

OFC Simulator Passes Certification

Chris Busch at the controls of OFC's simulator.Chris Busch at the controls of OFC's simulator.OFC is pleased to announce that our new simulator has been certified for use by Transport Canada today. Chris Busch, who has been the driving force behind the simulator, performed the certification tests under the watchful eyes of two Transport Canada inspectors.

The new simulator, a CR-12 model from Precision Flight Controls, will give OFC the ability to perform single and multi-engine aircraft training, with excellent graphics and an modern instrument panel complete with Garmin 430. The instrument panel is modeled after the Beech Duchess so the training in the simulator is directly relevant to the training in the actual aircraft. The same checklists are used and the switches are all in the same position. The benefits to multi-engine training are fantastic.

The new simulator will be available to rent for instruction shortly. Note that we will not be renting this simulator for solo flights. A few people have enjoyed playing on it before it was certified. Now that the certification is complete, the simulator will be treated just like the real aircraft and used only for its intended purpose. While it is a serious tool, it is still seriously fun training.

Give us some feedback once you get the chance to fly it.
